Roots and branches

Storytelling draws people in, creates community, inspires change. That spark is at the heart of my work. As a member of the brand design steering committee at National Geographic, I brought that sensibility and helped maintain consistency of brand identity and standards across divisions—in print, digital, television, multimedia and licensing.

BRAND
Marketing concept
Outdoor experience
125 years logo

I conceived, wrote and designed a marketing ad campaign for NGM that leveraged its strong brand identity and consumer satisfaction positioning. In a similar effort, I proposed a T-shirt slogan idea to be used in a partnership effort with NGM and the National Parks Service during its 100 year anniversary. This idea was drawn from my own experience of outdoor activity fueling creativity. For the NGS 125th anniversary year, I designed a logotype for small usage as well as for large color banners, with a palette derived from an update of the Society's tricolor flag.

DIGITAL
NGM iPad

After designing stories for the print edition of NGM, I designed and built digital iterations of those stories for the iPad device. These enhanced versions packaged additional photo galleries, video, and graphic animations.

BOOK
Mars

This 300-page illustrated book tells the story of an audacious quest to explore a human future on Mars. Combining the hard science of NASA-generated imagery with fantastic speculative illustrations of future technologies, the book serves as a companion to a six-part television series.
