My story

Hello, I’m David. As the former design director of National Geographic magazine, I worked with a talented team of editors, photographers, designers and cartographers, sustaining a deep tradition of excellence in long-form, visual journalism. My training: It’s not just deciding how things look, it’s revealing how things are. My belief: find the music and you’ll find the story. While at National Geographic, I was able to draw upon my interest in science, history, archaeology and the environment to guide innovative solutions for design packaging. I would like to continue that thread with projects that inform, delight and inspire. On a personal note, I’m a native Ohioan, a longtime DC area resident and the son of two scientist/teacher/activists whose fine example guides me every day. My wife and son are designers and my daughter is an artist farmer. I often get some of my best ideas walking (with my dog Ralph) or running the C&O Canal towpath along the Potomac River.
